American actor, producer, director, philanthropist and writer Kirk Douglas, who was one of the last celebrated artists of Hollywood’s golden age of cinema, has passed away on Wednesday, February 05 aged 103. Douglas was famous for his iconic performances in movies like ‘Spartacus’ and ‘Paths of Glory’. He came into the picture in late 1940s and left a mark behind which will never fade away. In a career which stretches over six decades, Douglas took part in nearly 100 movies. Douglas’s death was confirmed by his son Michael, the Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker. Douglas passed away at his family home in Beverly Hills. His son Michael said, “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103. To the world he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to”. He added, “To me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine (Zeta-Jones), a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband. Kirk’s life was well lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet”. Douglas is survived by his wife Anne Buydens, 100 years old, and three sons.
