Ganesh Chaturthi is significant because it celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha. People bring handcrafted idols of Lord Ganesha in their homes which is followed by a 16 step ritual popularly known as Shodashopachara Puja. On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, the idols are immersed in water. The Hindu festival has started from September 13.
