Spike Lee to head the Cannes film festival jury

For the first time ever, the Cannes jury is going to have a black person to preside over the film festival jury. Spike Lee has become the first person from the black community who will preside over the Cannes film festival jury. Spike Lee was quite surprised after he was informed about it and he said, "Shocked, happy, surprised and proud". When asked about his reactions for being the first black person to be a part of Cannes film festival jury, he said, "Biggest blessings... have happened out of nowhere. I'm honoured to be the first person of the African diaspora (USA) to be named president of the Cannes jury and of a main film festival. To me, the Cannes film festival (besides being the most important film festival in the world - no disrespect to anybody) has had a great impact on my film career. You could easily say Cannes changed the trajectory of who I became in world cinema". The Cannes Film Festival too has come out with an official statement which quoted, “Lee's work had brought the questions and contentious issues of the times to contemporary cinema and acknowledged that many of his films had achieved cult status. Spike Lee's perspective is more valuable than ever. Cannes is a natural homeland and a global sounding board for those who (re)awaken minds and question our stances and fixed ideas. Lee's flamboyant personality is sure to shake things up. What kind of president of the jury will he be? Find out in Cannes". Spike Lee is a famous American film director, producer, writer, and actor whose production company ‘40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks’ has produced more than 35 films since 1983. Lee made his directorial debut with She's Gotta Have It (1986). He has since written and directed films like  Do the Right Thing (1989), Jungle Fever (1991), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), The Original Kings of Comedy (2000), 25th Hour (2002), Inside Man (2006), Chi-Raq (2015), and BlacKkKlansman (2018).
