Sikka disappointed over ‘Raazi’

In 2018, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Raazi’ was both critically and commercially appreciated and it received a lot of awards also. The film is based on Harinder Sikka's 2008 novel 'Calling Sehmat', which is a true account of an Indian RAW agent who on her father's request married into a family of military officials in Pakistan to relay information to India before the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. Directed by Meghna Gulzar the film was critically acclaimed but it seems that Harinder Sikka the author of Calling Sehmat disagrees!

As per the book the story ends with Sehmat saluting the Tricolour but that part was excluded from the film. Sikka believes that if that part was there in the film then Raazi would have won the National Award. He further revealed,

“I told the director that you have stopped the film from getting the National Award by cutting the Tricolour scene in the film. Though this was done by the wishes of the filmmakers, but I still have resentment over it.”

Calling Sehmat is Harinder Sikka’s debut novel and it was quite a hit; around five lakh copies of Calling Sehmat were sold. The film adaptation of the book saw Alia Bhatt playing the titular role of Sehmat. Sikka expressed that things have changed since the abrogation Jammu and Kashmir’s Article 370 and he says that once again Sehmat is his inspiration for his next book, Section 370.
