Salim-Suleiman Taking a Dig at Remade Song

The transformation that Bollywood music industry went through in the 90’s, had a powerful impact on the masses. At one hand, when indie-pop, hip-hop added new genres to the Bollywood industry, while on the other hand, remixes and remakes of popular tracks became an instant hit and a definite choice for the masses.

The composer duo Salim Merchant and Suleiman Merchant have been producing several soulful hits for over a decade, but recently they have been a miss from the Bollywood Industry. Their work in the past few years have been limited and little compared to how they used to contribute in the early or mid-2000’s. The duo came out with a significant reason behind their sudden reduction of contributions.

Salim-Suleiman, have given us gems like the engaging tracks of ‘Chak De India!’, ‘Hum Tum’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Dor’, ‘Kites’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and the list just goes on. On being asked about their lesser contribution in recent times, Suleiman reportedly said that, the brothers do not want to make a big hit out of remakes which is the current need and trend of the music industry. They are more inclined to create new music, which will always be in accordance with the movie, and the chance seems very sleek, with remakes doing better business.

Salim agreeing with Suleiman also stated, that the consumers are nonetheless provided with these types of remakes, which is why they are more inclined to it, despite their taste for other genres of music. He concluded stating, ‘It’s really sad. If you notice, good composers like AR Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have taken a bit of a back seat’. Salim-Suleiman last contributed in two movies this year, ‘Article 15’ and ‘Setters’ and will look forward to create new tracks instead of the remakes and influence the audience otherwise.
