After 5 years of the highly successful cop drama movie ‘Mardaani’, Rani Mukherjee is all set to shoot for its sequel. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, the first film dealt with gruesome truths of human trafficking. The making of ‘Mardaani 2’ surfaced in 2018, and the first look of Rani came out on 27th March, marking the start of the long-awaited shoot. The film is said to mark the directorial debut of Gopi Pruthran, who was also the writer of ‘Mardaani’.
Rani Mukherjee has been previously praised for her acting in films like ‘Hey Ram’ (2000), ‘No One Killed Jessica’ (2011), ‘Bombay Talkies’ (2013), ‘Hichki’ (2018) and many more. In ‘Mardaani’, Rani plays the role of a senior inspector, Shivani Shivaji Rao whose interest in the case of a kidnapped girl leads to her taking on the kingpin of the child trafficking racket. Rani Mukherjee won the Stardust Awards for ‘Best Thriller – Action Actress, and Tahir Raj Bhasin, who played the child trafficker, won the Screen Awards for Best Actor in a Negative Role (Male). According to reports, ‘Mardaani 2’ will take on the similar plot, supposedly featuring Chunkey Pandey’s nephew Ahaan Pandey as the 21-year old antagonist in the film. The film’s release is not yet confirmed.
