On his 87th Birth Anniversary

A villain is good only when the audience hates him. Heroes are the good guy they triumph over the evil by defeating the villains. But in Bollywood, there have been times when the villain has stolen the show along with our hearts. The Hindi film industry has given us some great villains over the years. And it won’t be wrong to say that no one can ever replace the nefarious ‘Mogambo’ of ‘Mr. India’, a film where the villain left a mark on the film industry.

He was even a part of Hollywood’s Oscar-Winning movie, ‘Gandhi’. Apart from playing a villain he also played other characters with great conviction. Some of his memorable performances were in Mr. India, Karan Arjun, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Ghayal, Meri Jung, Naagin and many more. Even Hollywood director Steven Spielberg is a fan of Amrish Puri he chased him to cast him in his movie ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’.
