Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar will be coming together for a moving and eye-opening project. Meghna has roped in Deepika for her next directorial based on the life of an acid attack victim. Deepika will be playing the role of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor who was attacked at the age of 15. She underwent several surgeries and now she is an inspiration for all.
Laxmi helps other acid attack survivors now. She was awarded the US State Department’s International Women Courage Award in 2014 from the former First Lady Michelle Obama. On why Meghna chose to do this topic, she said, “Using Laxmi’s story as a lens, we are attempting to explore these aspects and the consequences of acid-related violence in our society. This’s what makes this must-told story relevant. Awareness is the first step towards change.”
