Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Bala calls for another controversy

The Ayushmann Khurrana's upcoming film Bala continues to staggering under the perpetual plagiarism row. It has been surrounded by controversies since the past couple of months.

The makers of Sunny Singh's Ujda Chaman withdrew their case of plagiarism against the makers of Bala but now, budding filmmaker Kamal Kant Chandra alleged that the film's script has been stolen from his biopic. He has demanded a permanent stay on the film.

"I want that there should be a permanent stay on the film Bala, and that I get to make the film. It is basically my biopic. It's my life story,” said Kamal Kant Chandra, who has directed Marksheet, a film on education scams in India featuring Imran Zahid and Mahesh Bhatt, which will be released on 28th November 2019.

Chandra’s main accusation is that Ayushmann and the makers of the film have lifted the concept from his life story. He claims it all started in 2017, when he approached Ayushmann to star in his film, about a young man suffering from premature balding. That is when the actor said that he wasn’t interested in playing a bald man’s character.

In December 2018, Kamal read that Ayushmann is all set to work on a film on the same theme. Further he sent a legal notice to the makers but following his complaint, Bombay High Court did not issue any restraining order so the makers proceeded with the making of Bala. Kamal approached the Supreme Court in October 2019."I moved the Supreme Court in October 2019. There was a hearing today (November 4) in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has ordered Bombay High Court to resolve the matter before Bala releases on November 8," said Chandra.

Apart from the makers of Ujda Chaman and now Kamal Kant Chandra, Jaipur-based filmmaker Naman Goyal also filed a plagiarism case against the makers of Bala. Mr Goyal saying the film’s plot has been stolen from his short film. Now, when the Ujda Chaman team have withdrew their case, will Kamal Kant withdraw his case? "Never. This is my own story," he answered.Bala, which also features Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam, opens in cinemas on November 8.
